We Review Our Favorite Alienware Computers

When it comes to gaming PCs, the Alienware brand has been a long standing favorite of gamers around the world. This is largely because Alienware consistently produces some of the best and most competitively priced gaming PCs on the market.

So to help our readers, we decided to write a review of our top 4 favorite Alienware computers available today.

Alienware m15 R7

If you’re in the market for a feature-rich, all-in-one gaming machine capable of dominating the competition, then the m15 R7 should be at the top of your list. Just released a few months ago, this beast represents the latest generation in the m-series of laptops from the beloved Alienware brand.

Often ranking among the best gaming laptops on the market, the m-series is hard to beat. For example, a base model R7 features a plethora of eye-catching specs under the hood including 16GB of DDR5 RAM, 512GB M.2 SSD, Nivida’s RTX 3050 Ti, and a 12th-gen Core i7 processor from Intel. Meanwhile the maxed out configuration boasts 64GB RAM, 4TB M.2 SSD, and Nvidia’s RTX 3080 Ti with the i9 Core processor.

We didn’t even mention the awesome 15.6-inch display, which is available in several different options including two 1920 x 1080 versions with refresh rates of 165Hz and 360Hz, and a 2560 x 1440 version with a 240Hz refresh rate.

With more specs and options than you can shake a stick at, it’s easy to see why so many people rave about this laptop. However, there are a couple of downsides we should mention.

One downside is the plastic chassis. Despite the m15 being quite expensive, it can feel a bit cheap considering that most laptops in this price range are made from aluminum or even magnesium. Another downside is the loud cooling fan. All of that raw power under the hood needs to remain cool for peak performance and that comes with a generous amount of noise.

Alienware R10

Of the 4 computers to make our list of favorite Alienware PCs, the R10 has been in production the longest, originally debuting in 2019.

Nevertheless, if you’re looking to flex your muscles on the competition, but don’t want to break the bank, this is the PC for you. These machines are outfitted from head to toe in AMD components from the Ryzen CPU to the Radeon GPU.

While R10s aren’t as fancy and feature-packed as Alienware’s R13 and R14 (see below), they set a high standard, especially for the price. There’s very little you can do with an R13 / R14 that you can’t also do with the R10.

Alienware x15 R2

If you want a laptop that matches the raw power and capability of Alienware’s m-series with a sleeker, more refined design – the x-series might be your cup of tea.

Like the m15 R7, the x15 R2 also comes packed with the latest and greatest gaming technology money can buy. And also like the m15, the x15 offers a slew of configurations to choose from.

Aside from the color, which Alienware calls Lunar Light, nearly every aspect of the x15 can be configured to fit your exact needs. Want the RTX 3080 Ti instead of the RTX 3060 – no problem. Want the two 2TB M.2 SSDs instead of one 512GB drive – no problem. Want a 1ms FHD 360 Hz display instead of a 3ms 165Hz display – you get the idea.

The keyboard is also a winner, providing gamers a responsive, tactile trigger action that is normally a luxury reserved for desktop gamers with mechanical keyboards.

When it comes to actual gameplay performance, this monster cuts through the most demanding action titles like a knife through warm butter. To stress-test the x15, we put all the graphics settings to the max and then started up Red Dead Redemption 2.

Our tests ran silky smooth. There was none of the screen stuttering or jittery graphics often associated with gaming laptops. The performance was as close to perfect as you could imagine.

But of course, all of this power comes at a cost. It’s amazing how hot this machine can get. Seriously, the temperatures that the x15 reached during intense gameplay is no joke and we’d recommend users to not leave it near anything flammable.

Alienware Aurora R14 & R13

The Aurora R13 and R14 are Alienware’s flagship desktop gaming PCs. These computers are virtually identical in every aspect except that the R13 utilizes Intel processors while the R14 relies on AMD.

Of course, since this is a desktop the various components such as the CPU, RAM, GPU and storage drive can be switched, swapped, and upgraded more easily than the average laptop – many of which now use components that are soldered to the motherboard.

For hardcore tech lovers like us, it’s difficult to tell which is more beautiful – the interior where all the magic happens or the exterior that comes to life with colorful RGB lights once powered on.

While the R13 is available in both black and white options, the R14 strangely only comes in black – or what Alienware calls “Dark Side of the Moon.”
