Samsung Galaxy S22: 5 Crucial Facts To Consider Before Buying

Samsung’s entry-level flagship – the Galaxy S22 – is one of the most popular smartphones on the market, and for good reason. It’s packed with the latest and greatest technology, features, and capabilities – all for less than $1000, making it an easy choice for a wide range of users.

For this article, we will go over 5 facts to consider if you’re in the market for the Galaxy S22. Be sure to stick around for the end, because we’ll show readers how to score an amazing deal on this amazing phone!

Fact 1 – Samsung’s Improved UI and Long-Term Support Commitment

All of the cool hardware specs we’re about to cover are meaningless without equally impressive software to control everything, right? Well, when it comes to a well-designed smartphone user interface, the Galaxy S22 is second to none.

When you unbox the phone you’re greeted with the most up-to-date version of Samsung’s One UI, an Android 12-powered operating system interface that brings Galaxy owners proprietary functionality and features not available on competing phones. At the time of writing this review, One UI 4.1 is the latest iteration and provides users “Smart Widgets” as well as enhanced S Pen compatibility, and simplified privacy management settings.

Going further, Samsung has also committed to long-term software support. Starting with the S22, (and retroactively applied to the S21 too), Samsung says the company will continue to deliver meaningful software updates for at least 4 to 5 years after the initial release.

Fact 2 – The Immersive Full HD+ Display

Like its predecessor, one of the most talked about features of the S22 is its 6.1-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. It’s a tad bit smaller, but this display sports a few noteworthy enhancements over the Galaxy S21’s 6.2-inch screen.

For one, the Galaxy S22’s 2340 x 1080 display packs an impressive pixel density of 425 PPI versus 405 PPI for the S21. Peaking around 1,300 nits, it’s also one of the brightest screens on the market, even beating the iPhone 13. And with Samsung Vision Booster switched on, cranking up the brightness doesn’t mean your contrast or color accuracy goes away. In fact, this panel can represent 110% of sRGB colors!

To put it simply, the screen on the S22 is stunning. It’s bright, clear, incredibly sharp, and is sure to provide a vibrant, immersive mobile gaming and video streaming experience.

Fact 3 – The Newer and Bigger Camera Sensor

At first glance, the Samsung Galaxy S22 appears to have an identical triple-stacked camera setup as its predecessor. However, after capturing some pictures or video, you’ll realize that these cameras are better than before.

The primary camera, set in the middle of the trio, is now rated at 50MP and sports a wide-angle lens with an 85-degree field of view as well as an enhanced sensor that’s nearly 25% larger to improve the low-light / no-light performance.

The ultra-wide camera, the topmost of the three, remains virtually unchanged while the telephone camera at the bottom of the stack is now 10MP with a 36-degree field of view.

Compared to its peers, the S22’s camera array definitely can hold its own, and in some cases outperform more expensive phones including the Pixel 6 or iPhone 13. This is especially evident when testing the phone’s stellar 30X telephoto zoom against the competition.

In addition to the physical modifications, Samsung also updated the artificial intelligence software that the cameras use to enhance portraits, detect faces, and stabilize images and videos.

Fact 4 – Best-in-Class Performance

In addition to the specs and features we’ve discussed so far, expect the S22 to support wireless charging, built-in 5G support for sub-6GHz and mmWave networks as well as connectivity options for LTE, WiFi, and Bluetooth too.

The US version is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor while the S22 released in some other countries uses the Exynos 2200 instead. Depending on the deal you select, your S22 will arrive with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage, or 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. As far as color options, you can pick Bora Purple, Pink Gold, Green, or Phantom White / Black.

Also, these devices are backed by the IP68 standard. Essentially, this means they’re built to withstand dirt and sand, as well as water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes without issue.

One of the biggest drawbacks of the S22 is the smaller battery. Rather than the 4,000 mAh found in the S21, the new phone’s battery is just 3,700 mAh. This small difference has caused many users to report the battery dying faster when compared to last year’s model.

Fact 5 – A Samsung Flagship Below $1000

As we’ve highlighted so far, the Samsung Galaxy S22 certainly doesn’t disappoint with its impressive list of specs and features. But one critical feature that we can’t overlook is its low price point.

For a fraction of the cost of the S22+ or S22 Ultra, Samsung puts in your hand the latest and greatest technology money can buy. We’re talking about a vibrant FHD+ AMOLED 6.1-inch display, industry-leading triple camera array, 8GB RAM, and the most powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor on the market – all for less than $1000!

There aren’t many smartphones, if any, at this price point that packs a punch like the Samsung S22.

Final Verdict

All in all, the Samsung Galaxy S22 is a beast of a phone. It has everything you’d expect from a modern, top-dollar smartphone except the top-dollar price.

Now we must ask the question: Is it worth upgrading from your current phone to an S22?

The answer to this question depends on your needs and budget. If you’re in the market for a new phone with great features then the S22 is worth considering, especially if your current phone is older than 2 or 3 years old. In this case, you’d undoubtedly find the S22 to be superior in nearly every way making the upgrade worth the money.

However, if your phone isn’t too old, you’re happy with it, and you don’t need any new features, then there’s probably no need to upgrade. What the S22 brings to the market is exciting, but truthfully nothing earth shattering compared to last year’s models.

In the end, the choice is yours alone, but if you’re inclined to make the upgrade, or even if you’re on the fence, then you should take a look at this great deal we found on Amazon for the Samsung Galaxy S22.
